Landscaping Tips and Tricks

Doing gardening for the first time? Well, here are some landscaping tips and tricks that can help you beautify your outdoors.

1) Test your Soil – The first thing you must do is get your soil tested. It will help you know about your soil such as current conditions of the soil and the fertility requirements of your soil.

2) Get a Tarp – You can use a tarp:

· To move debris like weeds, leaves, and brush.

· To hold soil when digging a hole,

· To keep the grass clean.

3) Use Weed Fabric Strategically – Landscape fabric is used to prevent the material from sinking into the soil. Use the weed barrier fabric strategically as they’re helpful for a short period of time until the weeds start growing in the mulch on top of the fabric.

4) Use Starter Fertilizer – Use a starter fertilizer whenever you plant anything. It will give a boost to your plants. Make sure that your fertilizers contain less nitrogen, a bit phosphorous, and mainly mycorrhizae - beneficial fungi. Mycorrhiza helps increase the soil area from which plant roots draw their sustenance. A good starter fertilizer is really important for the healthy growth of your plants.

5) Keep the Leaves – Don’t dump leaves. You can use dried leaves as a fertilizer for the grass and food for earthworms. You can use a mower or leaf shredder to grind up fall leaves. You can use shredded leaves as mulch or add them to the compost pile.

6) Recycle the Grass Clippings – Use a mulching mower instead of bagging and dumping grass clippings. This will cut fertilizer requirements by 30%.

7) Garden Tools – Make sure to buy good quality gardening tools. They might be expensive but they’ll not break in the middle of the job. Save money and time by buying good quality at value prices.
