5 Landscape Tasks for the Spring Garden

As spring is here, there is a lot of work to do in your garden. It’s always easy to rake a garden when the perennials aren't up. Here is a checklist of things that you should start doing as soon as you start seeing the signs of spring.

1. Spring Clean Up

Cleaning up your garden to get rid of dry leaves and debris is an important task. It helps in keeping the garden free of pathogens, mold, and rot that you can damage your garden. So if you haven't cleaned up from fall or even the winter, time to get to it.

2. Maintain Edges

Edging the garden bed is a really important task. You can use the edging tool to cut the grass edge and to keep your lawn neatly. This task is necessary to be done at least once in a year to avoid the creep of turf grasses into the garden zone.

3. Shrub Pruning

The springtime is the right time to prune some shrubs and wrong for others. But first thing first. Make sure to look through your garden and find out if there is any damage from the winter. Any twisted, bent, broken, or otherwise undermined branching should be pruned immediately regardless of the plant type. A clean cut is easier for the plant to heal than damage due to tearing. Now select your shrubs that you can prune in the spring. You can take help of professional landscape services to know which plant to prune or not.

4. Perennial Clean Up

Any perennial foliage not cut off and cleaned up in the fall needs to be cleaned up now. Perennial foliage can be a food source for the birds and can destroy your garden. So clean up foliage and damaged roots that have been dug up to give your garden a clean look.

5. Cut down Ornamental Grasses

It’s time to cut back the ornamental grasses to get them ready for the spring growth. It’s suggested not to wait for a long time as ornamental grass grows with increasing light and raising the temperature, resulting in pushing up through the old sheaths.
